About the event
Jarred Marlowe, of Collinsville, Virginia, will present a History of Funeral Traditions on Saturday, March 21, 10:30 AM, at the Jean Bradsher Scott Renaissance Center. The event is hosted by Milton Renaissance Foundation.
Marlowe’s presentation promises to guide audiences through a captivating tour of how humanity has honored the dead — from ancient mummification and early American burial practices to the rise of embalming, hearses, cremation, and today’s funeral homes. Along the way, the program will address curiosities such as the real difference between a coffin and a casket, why cemeteries and graveyards aren’t the same, and how funeral customs around the world — and in America — have changed over time.
